Hydrophobic

The Greek word HYDROPHOBIC is composed of “hydor” for “water” and “phobos” for “fear.” If a substance is HYDROPHOBIC, it means that it fears or avoids water and is therefore water-insoluble or water-repellent. Think of grease or water-repellent surfaces such as lotus leaves, for example. By the way, the opposite of HYDROPHOBIC is hydrophilic.
