Electrodeionization (EDI) is a continuous process for producing high-purity water and is a key technology for demanding industrial applications. ORBEN uses EDI systems wherever maximum water purity is required — for example in energy generation, the pharmaceutical and semiconductor industries, or in sensitive production processes.
The EDI process combines ion exchange resins with electrically assisted ion migration through selective membranes. In contrast to classic ion exchangers, electrodeionization works continuously and without regeneration. ORBEN typically integrates EDI systems after reverse osmosis or nanofiltration to reliably remove residual ions and achieve conductivities in the ultrapure water range.
A key feature of Orben-EDI solutions is the precise design for the respective pre-water quality and target purity. Parameters such as CO₂ content, silicate concentration or temperature are taken into account in system planning to ensure stable operating conditions. As a result, consistently low conductivities and reproducible water qualities can be achieved.
ORBENS EDI systems are also characterized by high operational reliability and low operating costs. Avoiding chemical regeneration not only reduces chemical consumption, but also reduces maintenance costs and the risk of operating errors. At the same time, integrated monitoring and protection functions enable reliable continuous operation.
In the context of sustainable water treatment, electrodeionization by ORBEN offers clear advantages: low resource consumption, reduced waste water volumes and a high level of automation. ORBEN thus provides EDI solutions that meet the highest technical and ecological requirements.
